Although non-Scriptural readings may be used, one or more passages of Holy Scripture always is read. It is appropriate that the lessons be read by lay people chosen by the bride and groom. Normally, a different person reads each lesson. If the wedding includes Holy Eucharist, a reading from a Gospel always is read by a deacon or priest. The bride and groom are free to select the readings, and the officiating clergyperson will assist if desired. Generally, Transfiguration recommends two Lessons, plus the Gospel if Holy Eucharist is part of the ceremony. Lessons normally would be read in the order given here. Suggested lessons are listed below, with links to the full text of each. |
