Children and Youth Ministry at Transfiguration includes all areas of religious education for children age three through senior high.  Specific areas are:  Church School classes, Children’s Chapel, nursery, communion instruction, and confirmation instruction.

Church School Superintendents this year are Jeanne Preston and Hilary Tarasuk.  Jeanne is completing her three year term.  The Superintendents recruit teachers, help choose and develop curriculum, substitute teach, and are members of the Children and Youth Ministry committee.  Many thanks to Jeanne and Hilary for the hours of planning and work.

We are in the fourth year of the Joyful Beginnings curriculum.  The rotation wokshop format is working well for our church.  Thank you to parishioners who have volunteered to shepherd or teach.

This year the Jr. High class is taught by Ted Karrison.  The Sr. High is led by Michael Trapp.  Thanks to both for their excellent leadership.

The Confirmation class, 10 teens, will be confirmed on February 22nd.  They have studied for the past two years in church school and in Koinonia sessions with their mentors to prepare for this important day.

A new curriculum has been developed this year for the Confirmation class.  The confirmands and their mentors have met once a month for a Koinonia (fellowship and learning) session.  A curriculum committee,  Katherine Hamann, Ted Karrison, Jeanne Preston, Debbie Trapp, Sandie Wagner, Lane, and Cheryl Ryniak have been hard at work this year writing the curriculum.  Thanks to all of them for their dedication to this project!

Joan Karrison is completing her third year as chairperson of the Children and Youth Ministry Committee.  Her annual report contains details of the events sponsored by this committee.  Many thanks, Joan, for your service.

Children’s Chapel, under the leadership of Amy Johnson, meets in Leach Hall during the first part of  the 10:00 service.  It is open to children age 3-grade 2.  In their time together the children sing, pray, have a Bible lesson, and an art activity.  Parents whose children attend assist on a rotating schedule.  Thank you, Amy, for this ministry.

Stacey O’Brien is our Sunday morning nursery attendant.  The nursery is open at 9 AM to accommodate parents who sing in the choir.

The programs and curriculum that have been developed and implemented over the past few years have been very successful.  That could not happen without the dedication of parishioners who volunteer to shepherd, teach, take leadership roles, and serve on committees.  Thank you to each and every one!

Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Ryniak
Children and Youth Ministry Director
