Altar Guild prepares for the sacred worship at each liturgical celebration. The duties of the altar guild are quite varied, as they include the care of not only altar linens but other liturgical items such as the eucharistic vessels, elements, vestments, candles and small furnishings for the altar. Decorations in the church of banners and flowers that are displayed have also been planned by the Altar Guild in order to create an environment appropriate to each occasion.
This includes funerals and weddings.
Meetings are held throughout the year to discuss and plan for liturgical celebrations. At meetings we have status reports on supplies, condition of linens, vestments and altar implements. This year Altar Guild arranged to have the Advent wreath modified to accommodate new blue candles and a center Christ candle that utilize liquid fuel. New linens were also were purchased. This was possible because of the generous memorial gifts given by church members to the Altar Guild at Easter, Christmas and other occasions during the year.
There is a memorial chart hanging in the church entry in order to sign up for flowers/memorials at Sunday services. Envelopes can be found at the entrance table or in the church pews. The suggested amount is $40.00.
Altar Guild along with the D.O.K. held their annual luncheon last spring. It was well attended and enjoyed by all at Palermo’s Restaurant in Orland Park. The group recognized the leadership of Lois Monfries as directress with over 10 years of service.
The Altar Guild welcomes new members to help in the many rewarding tasks of service. Please feel free to talk to any of the guild members if you have questions or would like to participate in the Altar Guild. |
