The Communications Team – made up of Melinda Moore, Becky Hensley and Shari Schmidt – worked to get the word out to the parish and the community about what’s happening at Transfiguration.
Becky produced Transcripts, while Melinda publicized events through traditional means such as newspapers, public-access cable, bulletin boards at area businesses and at Trinity Christian College and Moraine Valley Community College. Shari used her connections to publicize events through more innovative ways such as Craigslist and other social media. Notices also were sent via e-mail to parishioners.
Some of the events publicized in 2009 included the book/DVD sale in May, family concert with storyteller and singer Tom Kastle in the spring, Easter services and concert by the Columbia College Gospel Choir in December. A press release sent to the Chicago Tribune about Deacon John Nachtrieb seeking canes, wheelchairs and walkers for bombing victims in Sri Lanka led to an article in that publication that helped bring more attention to that important project.
The team meets informally a few times a year or as necessary. If you would like to join the team or have ideas about other ways to spread Transfiguration’s message, please contact one of the members. |
