(From January 2006) James, my husband of twenty-six years, is my family. We both have dear parents in their eighties and siblings and beloved nieces and nephews, but Jim is the most important person in my life. His unswerving faith (okay, you could also call it relentless nagging) has forced me to grow in faith. I was raised an Episcopalian (Grace Church, Hinsdale), but worshiped mainly on holidays for many years. In August, 1999 we came to visit Transfiguration and just jumped right in. I've served on committees - Children and Youth Ministry, Parish Life, Adult Formation - taught Church School for several years now - currently shepherding the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders with Becky Hensley - participated in Spirituality Group and Prayer Without Words, served as your delegate to the 2004 Diocesan Convention, chaired the St. Monica's Chapter of Daughters of the King, served proudly as a confirmation mentor to Anna Karrison and as a Search Committee member to bring you the Reverend Lane Hensley. There's a few more things - Altar Guild, Lay Weeding, Prayer Blanket Ministry, Eucharistic Visiting, Ushering, Cancer Support Network...One of my most exciting moments at Transfiguration was standing before you this fall to talk about stewardship, my job ups and downs at Howe Center in Tinley Park (a state operated residential facility for adults with developmental disabilities - one of whom is my sister), and my own experience of God's grace. When there's time I like to read, write (mostly e-mails), eat exotic food, and watch Korean soap operas. My vision for Transfiguration? We need to cherish each other, and especially our children, welcome strangers, and splash out boldly into our community - taking some risks, maybe making a few mistakes along the way, but living our faith and making it alive to everyone we encounter.
